Wigner function formulation of laser beam fluctuations
Abstract
In this paper a Wigner function description of beam fluctuations is described. A higher order Wigner distribution function (WDF) is derived and discussed. Its optical transformation properties are examined. The meaning of moments of the higher order WDF as quadratic deviations of the corresponding moments and their use in practice is explained. An example of the higher order WDF of a fluctuating beam is considered in detail.
