Wall heating with transparent insulation - results of realized demonstration projects

The development of transparent Insulation materials has led to a significant number of new solar thermal systems for new applications. An application with a high energy saving potential in the european climate is the "Wall Heating with Transparent Insulation". Together with companies and scientific organisations the institute is main contractor in the research project "Improvement of solar thermal systems by optimization of the solar aperture" supported by the Ministry for Research and Technology. A number of houses with transprarently insulated walls are an important part of this project. Besides the important practical experiences data acquisition systems provide the relevant information about physical parameter and the contributions to the heating demand in all the houses. The measurements are leading to new informations about the optimization of heating concepts. They influence new strategies for regulation and control of transprently insulated walls; they have also consequences fo r the wall construction. As an example the firect gains of windows and the time-delayed gains through the wall can be optimally combined. A further important aspect of these pilot houses is the improvement of the archectural design. A result is the already increasing number of inquiries for further applications.
