Process for measuring the weld seam during arc welding, whereby the trajectory of the welding torch is measured, a weld wire feeding device is used and the weld pool width and the weld pool lead are measured, characterized by the fact that - the welding speed, the wire thickness and the wire speed are measured - from them the volume (wire volume) of the weld material melted in the weld seam (additional material) is calculated , - the volume of the actual surface is determined from the measured weld pool width and the weld pool lead, - the wire volume value is compared with the seam (e.g. V or J) known or measured from the volume and the second value calculated from the volume of the surface and thus the weld overfill is calculated, - thus, the deviation of the weld overfill in excess of the desired and/or the start of the weld drop-through is calculated.
