Abstract
the method involves transforming the audio signal into the frequency domain, quantising the transformed signal with a predefined quantisation step size, requantising the result using the same step size, reverse transforming the result into the time domain, forming the difference between the reverse transformed signal and the original audio signal and comparing the difference with an error threshold. If the difference exceeds the error threshold the step size is reduced and the reverse transformation is repeated. The quantised transformed audio signal is encoded using the reduced step size. USE - esp. for studio use ADVANTAGE - enables lossless or nearly lossless encoding of audio signals.
