Abstract
Thermospray ionization was evaluated with respect to its suitability in the HPLC-MS determination of large number of pesticides having a wide range of structures and polarities in aqueous environmental samples. The method described inculdes 108 pesticides and some of their degradation products. After the evaluation of important experimental parameters which affect the HPLC-MS analysis of the relevant pesticides, the trace enrichment from aqueous samples is described. Preconcentration is achieved by either off-line or on-line solid-phase extraction with subsequent HPLC seperation and thermospray HPLC-MS detection. The method allows the verification of the limit set in the German and EU Drinking Water Guidelines (100 ng/l) for all investigated compounds and detection limits in the low ng/l-range are chieved when analyzing aqueous samples. The method was evaluated with respect to its selectivity, detection limit, linearity, precision and ruggedness.
