Titel
Ultrasonic characterization of texture in aluminium rolled products
Abstract
The texture in aluminum rolled products is crucial for the later materials behavior. The texture is characterized by destructive tests using samples, cut from the produced strip. Based on the experiences developed during the design and construction of an ultrasonic device for the online characterization of the drawability parameters of rolled steel strips, investigations on Al-rolled products are performed. It is found that for this particular case of application the ultrasonic SH-wave is the most suitable mode. Sensors were built and the ultrasonic time-of-flight was measured as function of the angle between the sound propagation and the rolling direction. A very satisfying correlation is found between the ultrasonic measuring quantities and the earing values, evaluated using the established destructive technique.
