Titel
Tropospheric ozone at elevated sites and precursor emissions in the United States and Europe
Abstract
The emission of oxides of nitrogen (NO(x)) and of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from anthropogenic sources are compared between the United States of America, OECD-Europe and subregions thereof. Emission flux densities are larger in central Europe than in the eastern United States. Ozone levels, observed at elevated sites, are remarkably similar in these respective subregions provided that titration effects of NO are small. It is argued that ozone transport from the free troposphere exerts a strong influence on concentrations at elevated sites.
