Title
The triangle shading engine
Abstract
This paper describes an algorithm for the Gouraud-shading of triangles and its realization in hardware. First, different realizations using span-shading hardware are discussed. Their drawbacks then lead to the design of a triangle-shader as an ASIC. This chip, together with a signal processor for the geometry computations, will provide an effective and low-cost graphics subsystem for the PC environment.
