Title

Towards a Quantification of Damage Risk Caused by Cracks using a Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics Approach Together with new Developements in Quantitative NDT

Abstract
This paper introduces new developments in quantitative NDT. From the perspective of structural reliability assessments, these new developments aim for improved flaw evaluation using probabilistic fracture mechanics. Tools that are used to quantify NDT inspection results rely on two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction techniques, modeling software for sound propagation interacting with discontinuities, and the implementation of CAD environments for visualization enhanced by explanation-modules that utilize ray-tracing algorithms and sound path computation. The assessment of the significance of flaws to plant reliability is discussed within the potential for probabilistic fracture mechanics. The paper presents the features of probabilistic simulation of static failure on the base of Failure Assessment Diagram.
