Three dimensional automatic motion analysis
Abstract
Automatic motion analysis is required for many applications. In order to analyze crash-tests for example, certain markers on test dummies are selected and tracked along the sequence to achieve motion vectors, velocities and acceleration. The Fraunhofer-Institute IIS has developed software packages to automate the task of motion analysis. A combination of sophisticated image processing algorithms, using neural net technology and interactive options, reduces the time for calculating the motion vectors considerably. Using subpixel detection modules, the accuracy is improved by a factor of about 20 in comparison with a human operator. Combined with a versatile calibration routine for an arbitrary number of cameras, even 3D motion measurements can be achieved conveniently.
