Abstract
New materials are developed for the purpose of enhancing and extending the serviceability, i.e. fitness for use, of industrial products. An essential aspect in this context is also more economically efficient use and thus quality assurance of new materials can only be done by employing state-of-the-art quality assurance methods. The present tendency is to integrate quality assurance measures alredy during the materials development stage and in the fabrication process in order to reduce the costs incurred by defects. Micro-NDT (non-destructive testing) methods are coming to be increasingly employed which characterize the condition of the material by development of non-destructive testing methods is given below as based on a number of examples.
