This paper describes a combination of experimental analysis and computer simulation to study the mechanics of orthopaedic means. Particular consideration has to be given to the complex load condition. The optical method, digital speckle pattern interferometry, provides information about the behaviour of implanted elements and of micromechanical sensors attached. Experiments have been carried out on membranes separately and on the compound of human bone and steel plate. Vibration and deformation results are compared with finite element calculations to gain knowledge about the healing process of bone tissues.
