Titel
Surface remelting of cast iron camshafts by CO2 laser radiation
Abstract
Cast iron cams of assembled camshafts are remolten by CO2 laser radiation to enhance the wear properties by producing a ledeburitic layer. The investigations are performed on four different globular and lamellar cast irons. To improve the process efficiency the application of beam shaping optics and possibilities to increase the absorptivity during the remelting process are studied. The influence of different process parameters concerning beam shaping and energy coupling (different surface preperations, polarized laser radiation) on the processing results (remelting geometry, form stability, structure, processing time) are investigates for the remelting of camshafts.
