Abstract
The photochemical transformation of the biogenic alpha pinene was studied in a smog chamber in the presence of NOx and SO2. It was demonstrated that presence of SO2 has no measurable effect on the formation of ozone at levels of SO2 relevant for the troposphere. The ovserved degradation of the SO2 is too fast to be explained by the gas phase reaction of OH radicals alone. A major portion of the transformation is performed transient degradation products of the terpene and by heterogeneous processes.
