Smog chamber investigation of the photochemical conversion and formation of air pollutants from NOx hydrocarbons and sulphur oxide
Abstract
Since the funding by the PEF of the work of the Fraunhofer-Institute at Hanover ceased in June 1990, an overview of the results from the three consecutive projects is given here. Furthermore, model calculations and experimental smog chamber simulations on the photochemical behaviour of forestal air, performed during the most recent project, are reported. The model calculations and the experiments agree in that the ozone maxima appear earlier with increasingly exaggerated concentrations of the terpenes. On the other hand, the presence of the aromatics appears to have the biggest contribution to ozone formation. This impact is expected to increase in the near future due to the present trend of emissions related to traffic.
