Abstract
A single-stage gas gun is used as a ballistic simulator. It permits the generation of relatively clean, two-phase, reacting flows with realistic gas pressure and temperatures. This device is driven by the combustion of gas mixtures such as helium/hydrogen/oxygen or carbon monoxide as propellant. The experiments described are aimed at establishing a basic understanding of the concentration dependence of the single-phase reaction. The main parameters to be measured are pressure, temperature, gas velocity, and species concentrations. These data are sorely needed to provide new insight into the ballistic flow processes that occur in realistic gun environments. The goal is to assust in the development of combustion submodels which have to be implemented into present interior ballistic flow codes.
