Abstract
The subject of this paper is the application of Acoustic Emission analysis as and NDT-method for monitoring and inspection of loaded components like pressure vessels. First it is presented the state of the art of the basic aspects of Acoustic Emission (AE), the characterization of the most important AE-sources, the signal distortion by sound propagation in thick walled components, that means the change of the signal parameters by sound propagation. The interpretation rules for the characterization and discrimination of AE signals of crack growth and crack border friction type are presented. The requests for an advanced AE-testing device resulting from the presented state of the art are described. As an example the AE-system developed at the IzfP is shown. At the end the experiences of the last four years concerning AE-monitoring of loaded pressure vessels in the FRG will be reported. The essential results will be briefly presented. (IZFP)
