Waste gas cleaning and organic solvent recovery with an adsorption-membrane process
Abstract
Organic solvents are used in most production and treatment processes, like drying or cleaning of organic fluids, coating or manufacturing and application of adhesives. Due to the more severe anti- pollution laws the effluent air has to be cleaned to the strongly reduced limit values for organic solvent contents. For small and medium sized units the necessary investment costs would be too high. For these applications, the process that has been developed is intended as an alternative. The coupling of adsorption and membrane processes enables the optimal usage of each operation unit. The stream of waste air is cleaned in the adsorption stage. After thermal desorption the recovery of the organic solvent is achieved by means of vapour permeation. In this paper basic operating parameters will be discussed. A comparison of capital and operation costs will be presented.
