Abstract
Considering vehicle constructions (road or rail) in particular the adequate evaluation of fatigue-related influences of material porosity caused by casting procedures is of major importance with regard to the dimensioning of structural components as well as to quality verifications. Using notched and unnotched flat test specimens of several cast aluminum alloys this problem has been investigated under constant and variable amplitude loading. The test results are presented in form of Woehler- and fatigue-life curves. Based on these data consequences relevant to components of automotive vehicles are finally outlined.
