In order to constantly provide and safeguard company specific diagnostic knowledge, the report-based diagnosis system FADIS++ has been developed and successfully implemented in actual practice. It is based on a holistic management approach which covers the acquisition, representation and processing of knowledge. Starting with the problem, this paper explains the concept of report-based knowledge management. The methods used in knowledge acquisition, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the chosen type of knowledge representation are shown. Practical examples present the application areas of FADIS++ and at the same time illustrate the benefits for the user.
