Titel
Reducing core loss of high grain oriented electrical steel by laser scribing
Abstract
In many transformers high oriented electrical steel is used instead of regular grain oriented steel yielding a lower core loss and higher efficiency. A further reduction of the core loss can be achieved by domain refining which can be done either by scratching the electrical sheet with a ball point pen or scribing with a focussed laser beam perpendicularly to the main domain direction. In this paper, we present a domain refining method by means of laser scribing, where the laser induced thermal fields cause the generation of subdomains leading to a sufficient decrease of eddy current loss. The paper presents first results using a comparison of hysteresis loss and eddy current loss before and after the laser treatment.
