Abstract
The application of excimer laser radiation for scale removal on sheet material and welding seams is investigated on corrosion resistant austenitic steels for short pulse KrF and long pulse XeCl laser radiation. Measurements of the corrosions resistance reveal a favourable influence on the pitting behaviour. The scale removal is observed by optical measurements. According to the characteristic changes in spectral reflectance a concept for on-line diagnostics is described.
