Acoustical measurement procedures for the testing of quality and function are needed more and more to afford undisturbed operation of machines, high quality of products and humane places of work. These procedures encounter problems in the three domains sensing (application of sensors, position-finding), signal-analysis (complexity of procedures) and pattern recognition (few random samples, uncertain classification). They are worked out together with possible solutions. (IITB)
