Title

Pressure oscillations in regenerative liquid propellant gun

Other Title
Druckoszillationen in Regenerativwaffen
Abstract
Pressure oscillations in regenerative liquid propellant guns (RLPGs) are often observed to form throughout the gun chamber and down the tube. The high amplitude, high frequency (up to 80 kHz) pressure variations are undesired due to postulated, though as yet not confirmed, effects on weapon system components, boundary layer formations, and sensitive projectiles. Based upon a variety of experimental data obtained from a large number of RLPG tests with medium and large caliber guns, an analysis of the pressure oscillation problem is presented. Also, approaches undertaken to reduce or eliminate the pressure disturbances are briefly summarized.
