Neutron bubble detectors - measurements with fast neutrons in comparison with customary devices
Abstract
The properties of neutron bubble detectors of the type BD-100 R with four different sensitivities were investigated with neutrons from radioactive sources as well as 14 MeV generators (DT-reaction) and with pure gamma-irradiation. In comparison with different measuring methods it turned out, that the experimental determined sensitivity had considerable fluctuations (up to 50%). After several neutron irradiations the bubble detectors showed a small gamma-sensitivity, however the gamma-rays formed significant larger bubbles. Photographs of the irradiated bubble detectors were taken in order to improve the accuracy enumerating a large quantity of bubbles. Then the photographs were evaluated in a densitometer. The measurement of neutron doses in the range from 0.01 mSv to 0.8 mSv is possible with a set of bubble detectors with different sensitivity.
