Multifunctional transponder systems with combined telemetry and identification functionality

Abstract
Transponders as key components of innovative systems are bringing a broad variety of additional functions into new products. The transponder is source and carrier of any kind of information and presents in combination with complex information networks a suitable platform for many classes of processes and services in information technology. This article illustrates a multifunctional transponder developed by Fraunhofer IMS with the special ability of having different functions like microsensors, microprocessors for local intelligence and memory for application specific data integrated on one chip. Furthermore Fraunhofer IMS has the ability for design and realization of read/write-stations including networking features.
