Title

A modular leightweight construction system for climbing robots

Abstract
State of the art climbing robots are highly sophisticated robotic devices that have been engineered for one very specific task. This is one reason why climbing robots have not been able to penetrate the service market which demands customized but also adaptable solutions. At Fraunhofer IPA a modular construction system for climbing robots is currently being developed. This modular approach addresses the key functions a climbing robot has to solve. In this context an intelligent adhesion module and a lightweight sliding frame module that is based on carbon fiber tubes are currently being designed and tested.
