Abstract
In this paper, the author gives a global overview of the present situation and the potential of the applicability of service robots. General characteristics of service systems and designing guidelines for service robot applications are defined. Different components supporting intelligent handling and mobility were presented. At the end of the paper several practical applications of service robots are discussed.
