A matter of Scale(s) - Made-to-Order Weighing Machines Bring Success to Mettler-Toledo
Abstract
Mettler-Toledo in Albstadt, Germany has completely changed its business procedures: The company now produces its scales only according to actual sales. And as a result of fluctuating market demands, such production capacity can vary between 50% and 200%. This flexibility is made possible by a far reaching flex-time concept and a corporate culture that even calls upon members of the research and development staff to assist with actual production of the scales when necessary. Mettler-Toledo has also empowered its suppliers to become an integral part of the logistic concept. Finally, new products are being introduced by development teams that keep close contact with market demand and, whenever possible, create these new products without incorporating new technologies that would increase time-to-market.
