Abstract
The application of industrial robots is preceded by extensive planning procedures. However, until now computer tools have hardly been used for the pre-selection of industrial robots suitable for the respective automation problem. Therefore the elemtenary structures of the decision process have been carefully analyzed and the requirements on a decision support derived. Knowledge based systems provide mechanisms in order to fulfill the requirements. The knowledge was systematized and models for the declarative and procedural knowledge were drawn up. The duplication of the decision process is through a multi-stage decision model which was realized with the help of the hypothetical worlds concept.
