The influence of ultrasound on the homogeneous nucleation of KAl(SO4)2.12H2O in aq. soln. and 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-on (NTO) in water, MeOH, 2-propanol, and DMF was investigated. Crystn. expts. with varying cooling rates with and without ultrasound were performed and the time of induction, particle size, and yields compared. For the system KAl(SO4)2.12H2O in water the nucleation temp. is higher with ultrasound, so that the time of induction is shorter, the av. particle size smaller, and the amt. of particle sizes gets fewer. For NTO only in water an influence of ultrasound was detd. The particle size and its distribution were reduced and an influence on the morphol. was found.
