Abstract
These investigations provide conclusive confirmation that when the Youngs-Modulus is held constant, explosive charges containing fine particles are less sensitive than charges with coarse material. Charges with a bimodal particle size distribution are of intermedite sensitivity. These conclusions were reached through testing of charges in which HMX and the composition of binder were held constant. In comparison to Comp.B the charges have a similar detonation rate but a clearly smaller sensitivity to shock and bullet impact.
