Hydroxyl and aromatics: fate of the adducts in the presence on NOx and O2. A contribution to subproject LACTOZ
Abstract
Consecutive reactions (with O2) of adducts from the reversible addition of hydroxyl to aromatics are investigated by two different techniques, pulsed VUV photolysis/resonance fluorescence and smog chamber. For the system OH/phenol/O2, the temperature and pressure dependence is studied in detail. For this purpose the kinetic analysis is further developed and aplied to more recent measurements on p-xylene. The competition of the unimolecular decay of the adduct with the consecutive reaction is observed for benzene, toluene and p-xylene in smog chamber experiments in N2 at atmospheric pressure with O2 between 20 ppm and 21 %.
