A fuzzy-based room climate control concept as component of a user-friedly integrated home system (IHS)
Abstract
In this paper a new fuzzy-based supervisory control concept for heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) is presented. It enables the untrained user to operate at home his heating and ventilation control facilities easily and optimally according to his individually weighted comfort and economy objectives. By means of available design and simulation tools in a MATLAB/SIMULINK environment the fuzzy components can be adapted to spatially and physically different rooms as well as to alternative IHS products or actuator-sensor configurations. The performance with respect to energy saving and comfort improvement has been investigated in the IHS test and demonstration center of the lITB as well as by numerous realistic simulations. Ongoing R&D activities deal with the modification of the fuzzy-based supervisory control concept to alternative actuator-sensor configurations as well as to the additional consideration of artificial or natural room illumination. The room luminosity controllable by shutter elements or electric lights will be considered additionally in the comfort and economy criteria. The adaption of the fuzzy-based concept to completely different multi-variable industrial processes will be object of further research.
