Titel
Formation of ClNO2 and NOCl in the presence of NO2, O3 and wet NaCl aerosol
Abstract
The sticking coefficients of NO2 and N2O5 on wet NaCl aerosol are determined to be alpha(NO2)<10(exp-4) and alpha(N2O5) = 0.03 +0.03/-0.01. The uptake of NO2 leads to a formation of HONO in the gas phase instead of NOCl. The branching ration for the second order reactions of adsorbed N2O5 with Cl-(k'4a and H20 (k'4b) is determined from the yields of ClNO2 as a function of relative humidity to be between 7 and 20. The error limits account for the systematic errors introduced by the influence of NO-3 on the hygroscopic properties of NaCl and the uncertainties of N2O5 losses.
