Title
Flexible dismantling of automobile body structures with industrial robots
Abstract
Today's automobile recycling concepts do not include disassembly of materials before shredding. Only at several research centres the interior parts of vehicles are disassembled. The development of disassembly and recycling processes including flexible dismantling cells will bring significant cost savings in the recycling activities that will allow a tremendous reduction of car shredder residues deposition. The integration of modern robot technology into the disassembly concept developed by IPA for cutting off of the tops of vehicles shows first possibilities to improve the disassembly depth together with reduced disassembly cycle times. The disassembly research activities at IPA represent the consequent transmission of disassembly automation Know-how into the immense field of recycling.
