Abstract
Radiography of liquid fuel injection provides valuable information on the jet development, structure, propagation and disintegration which cannot be obtained optically, because often the jet core is hidden behind a curtain of spray droplets. Tests at increasing prepressures require thicker x-ray windows in the injection chamber which absorb already most of the transmitted soft x-rays. The technique encompasses a high-intensity flash soft x-ray generator with a pulse duration of 120 ns FWHM and a specially designed injection chamber. Various flash radiographs of liquid injection phenomena, taken at a prepressure of 1 and 100 bars, illustrate the achieved progress.
