Titel
Fatigue design of sintered connecting rods
Abstract
The design and testing of a PM automobile connecting rod are described. Finite element analysis is used to design a con-rod using engine data and materials properties. First prototypes were machined from blanks of Fe-1.5Cu-0.5C which were later on hardened and tempered. The design was refined, PM dies were produced and about 100 con-rods manufactured for testing in test rigs and engines. Results of testing are reported and the design shown to be verified with the possibility of further optimisation.
