Abstract
The macroscopic crack growth and the dynamic and cyclic fatigue behavior of two commercial silicon- nitrides are investigated in the temperature range up to 900 degree C. The correlation between subcritical crack growth and fatigue behavior is examined. In view of the application of these ceramics in combustion engines, the influence of exhaust gas and frequency on the cyclic fatigue behavior is studied.
