Das energieautarke Solarhaus
Abstract
All the energy needed by a single family home in the Central European climatic zone can be provided by the solar energy incident on the building's exterior during a year. The pre-conditions are measures to reduce the energy demand, components for efficient passive and active use of solar energy and a seasonal storage system. As a research project the Self-Sufficient Solar House was designed and completed in October 1992. The architecture, building construction and energy concept of the house were developed in a comprehensive planning process including results obtained from dynamic building and system simulation calculations. Apart from conventional energy saving measures, the essential components of the energy concept are a solar facade with transparent insulation, a highly efficient hot water collector system, a photovoltaic array and a hydrogen/oxygen system for seasonal energy storage. All systems are dimensioned so that usual living comfort is maintained. The paper describes the bu ilding and its energetic concept. Monitoring results and operating experiences are themes of an article to be published later.
