Abstract
During 1989 the Fraunhofer Institute of Food Process Engineering and Packaging, Munich, performed a study on the "Emission Situation in Food Industry" on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology (BMFT) in Bonn. The study was presented in February 1990. The present emission situation was investigated. Also the urgent need of measures for the reduction of emissions was nominated due to the criteria as "specific loads", "total loads", "locally concentrated loads". Priorities for the futural developments were worked out in the study. As an important result a list of 11 topics was established concerning the urgent need of research and development work in order to reduce the specific emissions from industrial food production. The study is part of the basic material, which contributes to the formation of the "Second Research Program on Environmental Technology" of the BMFT, in which the development of production specific emission reduction will be sponsored. In the following the most important results of the study will be published in two parts.
