Titel
Elastic-plastic behaviour of shock-loaded Fe-SiO2 composite materials
Alternative
Elastisch-plastisches Verhalten von Fe-SiO2 Komposit-Material unter Stoßbelastung
Abstract
First results of the investigation of the dynamic behavior of porous Fe-Si02-composite material will be presented. The dynamic properties have been determined by use of the planar-impact technique in connection with a velocity-interferometer VISAR. The Hugoniot Elastic-Limit HEL and the spall strength turned out to be in the range of 0.04 - 0.2 GPa and less than 0.1 GPa respectively and differ strongly from the corresponding values of the compounds Fe and SiO2. With these properties Fe-SiO2 composite could be used as a shockwave damping material in sandwich structures. Besides the HEL and spall strength other dynamic properties such as stress-strain relation and Us-up diagrams will be presented. Results of microscopic examination of sample fragments from recovery experiments will be shown. This examination yields further information about the dynamic response of the material to shock loading. The observed fracture characteristics provide some insights into the energy consuming processe s of the material. The influence of the internal structure of the samples on the propagation of shockwaves seems to cause local fracture even at low overall stresses.
