Based on linking the HYSCAN 3D laser digitizer mounted on servo-driven coordinate measuring machine with the CATIA CAD system a multiple usable digitizing system for free formed moulds and tools was realized at the IPA. The digitized 3D data are transferred to the CATIA CAD system and are processed by specially developed and integrated CAD functions to NC processing data or directly to CAD surfaces. This system connects model making, CAD/CAM and NC technology by standardzed software interfaces.
