Titel
Dynamic exhaust gas analysis. A tool to study and to improve engine management
Abstract
Infrared diode laser spectroscopy enables dynamic exhaust gas analysis with millisecond time response. A spectroscopic analyser for the simultaneous measurement of two exhaust gas components at two sampling locations for operation under test bed conditions is described. Some results obtained by means of this system on NO, CO, and CH4 at a number of renowned European and US American automotive companies are presented thus illustrating the potential of measurements with single cycle time resolution. Main areas of application are the study of details of engine combustion and the test of combustion models, as well as engine fine tuning for reduction of fuel consumption and pollution emission.
