Preparing the use of the grinding wheels with the high-hard Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) as cutting material is stell a problem despite its availability on the market for more than 25 years and possible technological and economic advantages. These problems result from the extreme hardness of the cutting material and the special structure of the grinding layer. First of all, the reasons for the difficulties which occur when truing and dressing with the konwn methods are described in this article. In the following it is explained how the use of CBN grinding wheels can be prepared with the help of laser beams. The suitability of the new method is shown using the example of a dressing process on a resin-bonded grinding wheel.
