Generic Interface Descriptions using XML
Abstract
Universal access and accessibility for all require a certain flexibility of technical devices. Some technical applications have only limited and very static interfaces as there are public kiosk systems (e.g. banking terminals or ticket machines). Interfaces of such machines are designed for the average user. This paper presents a remote access platform for mobile devices allowing every user to interact with common kiosks through their own customised mobile device. The user interface of the original terminal application is represented in a generic XML-based description which then is interpreted on the user device. The work is currently supported by the project EMBASSI, which is co-funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
