Titel
Feature-preserving Simplification in Web-based 3D-GIS
Abstract
3D Geographic Information Systems (3D-GIS) handle a vary large amount of data. Providing access to this data in a web-based system, data reduction is essential. Recent work of surface simplification does not take into account the visual importance of specific details besides geometry and surface properties. In this paper, an extension of the QSlim simplification is presented, which preserves given features during the simplification.Combined with aggregation of less important features, this approach leads to more sophisticated graphical abstraction where essential parts in the model are emphasized depending on the aim of the visualization.
