Abstract
The solar irradiance heats surfaces exposed to the sun. The temperature depends on the optical properties, the thermal properties of the materials and their geometry. Moreover the ambient climate (temperature, wind, radiation exchange etc.) influences the surface temperature and the temperature gradients in the devices that cause mechanical strain and stress. Measurements of the surface temperature during irradiation are not easy, because the sensor temperature itself depends on the spectral optical properties of the sensor surface and usually on the spectral distribution of the irradiation, making comparison of outdoor tests with indoor tests with different light sources very difficult. The paper reports results of experimental investigations of various combinations of materials, sensors and irradiation sources and the impact of ambient climates, as well as the comparison with numerical simulations of the surface temperature.
