Scalable causal model of digital factory to analyze economic efficiency
Abstract
In this essay, a model of the effect correlations between Digital Factory technologies and efficiency in production will be deduced step by step. The model is scalable concerning development process level and production modeling. Starting with the awareness that Digital Factory - in addition to direct time and hence monetary benefit in the production development process - also is of considerable qualitative use in production, the effects of Digital Factory on economic production efficiency are depicted. Initially, there is a direct effect of Digital Factory on the planning task in the development process itself. The Digital Factory brings about, amongst others, qualitative improvement of the planning result. This planning result determines the waste within production and thus is of significant influence on production efficiency. Thereof the direct effect of Digital Factory planning on structure elements and waste in production can be derived. Summed up in a System Dynamics model, the correlations are being scalably visualized and represent the effects in a transparent way. In closing, this causal model is the basis for profitability assessment the procedure of which will be described in this paper.
