Experimental and numerical investigation of texture development during hot rolling of magnesium alloys
Abstract
The present research work has been concentrated on the clarification of selected problems of deformation mechanisms for the aspired deformation-recrystallization model. The model at the current state of development is already able to describe many experimental results at least quantitatively. Among other things the experimental results showed that twinning occurs even at high temperatures and is responsible for the anomaly in the slope of the flow curve in the range of small deformation degrees. During compression tests which were mainly required for the adaptation of the model a temperature dependency of the basal texture development could barely be observed. This, however, does not apply to the rolling trails with cast-rolled feedstock. In addition, the reasons for the remarkable forming ability of cast-rolled magnesium strips could be revealed by examining the distinctive initial texture and tracing its development during rolling. Subject of further work will be the detection and utilization of recrystallization phenomena. The cognitions of the experiments will be taken into account for the model development in order to reproduce all experimentally found mechanisms.
